Ghost Tapes

A tapestry of Istanbul's street scenes and ornaments shot on 16mm and super8 film. The idea was to synchronize visual elements with the musical elements in terms of the atmosphere and rhythm, using repetition and collage, sampling and overlapping, which are the basis of composition in both medias. Considering the tradition of visual music, it is meant to move beyond the association of colors, light and shape with music, into a more picturesque representation, to position this film somewhere between visual music and MTV video spots. The music and field recordings originate from the same time and place/space.

Ghost Tapes is a composition of everyday fragments based on found tapes, field recordings, beats and radio frequencies. A ruff attempt of interpreting the cultural ghost that surrounds the field and makes the difference between place and space.
